About this skill
Writing numbers 0 to 20 is kindergarten’s bridge between counting and math on paper. These worksheets build it in bands — trace and write 0 to 5, then 6 to 10, 11 to 15, and 16 to 20 — with missing-number lines, number-line hops, and count-then-write pages that tie each numeral to a quantity. A review page pulls all twenty numbers together so children leave counting with numerals they can form on their own.
Teaching notes
- Teach a verbal path for each numeral (“start at the top, curve around”) and keep a number line visible at writing height.
- Expect reversals — a backward 6, or 14 written as 41. For teen numbers, say the structure aloud: “fourteen is one ten and four ones.”
- Quick check: dictate three numbers out of order and watch formation, not just the finished digits.
