Ratios
Grade 6 · 10 worksheets
About this skill
A ratio compares two quantities — three cups of flour to one cup of sugar, five boys to four girls. These worksheets teach the language of ratios three ways (with words, a colon, and as a fraction), then build ratio tables, equivalent ratios, simplifying, unit rates, and best-buy unit pricing. Part-to-part and part-to-whole comparisons get their own careful treatment, and recipe scaling and word problems show ratios earning their keep in daily life.
Teaching notes
- Start concrete — mixing juice or paint — and record every mixture in a table so the pattern becomes visible before any rules are stated.
- Order is the whole game: 3:5 is not 5:3. Label both quantities in every ratio, every time, until it’s a habit.
- Extend with a best-buy challenge: two package sizes, one winner, and students must defend the pick with a unit rate.
