1. 1. Read this story: Mia woke up and looked out her window. Snow covered everything like a white blanket. The sun made the snow GLISTEN and sparkle like tiny diamonds. It was so bright and shiny that Mia had to squint her eyes. Mia put on her warmest coat and mittens. Outside, the cold air made her SHIVER. Her whole body shook and trembled from the freezing wind. She walked across the yard. With each step, her boots made the snow CRUNCH under her feet. The sound was loud and crispy, like stepping on potato chips. Mia built a snowman with her brother Tom. They rolled three big MOUNDS of snow to make the body. The piles of snow got bigger and rounder as they pushed them across the yard. Tom found a carrot for the nose. Mia used two stones for eyes. They wrapped a long SCARF around the snowman's neck. The warm cloth looked cozy on their frozen friend. Suddenly, Mia felt something cold and wet hit her back. Tom had thrown a snowball! Mia laughed and SCOOPED up her own handful of snow. She grabbed the cold snow quickly with both hands and threw it back at him. After playing for an hour, both children were DRENCHED. Their clothes were soaking wet from all the melted snow. Water dripped from their coats and mittens. They went inside where Mom had hot cocoa waiting. The warm drink helped them THAW after being so cold. Their frozen fingers and toes slowly warmed up again. Mia smiled. Even though she was tired and wet, she felt CONTENT. She was happy and satisfied after such a fun morning in the snow. Tom yawned and stretched. Tomorrow they would VENTURE outside again.
